SESSION PLAN
The following topics will be discussed in the session:
- Human thinking preferences (The Hermann brain model will be discussed as a starting point to illustrate what attracts and interests different types of people. This will also provide an opportunity for each individual to get to know themselves better).
- Preferred learning mode and communication style of each quadrant of the Hermann bran model ( This will assist each tutor to understand which quadrant each of their students fall into, and in doing so get clues on how to deal with students using an effective approach.
- Question and answer session to provide tutors and staff an opportunity to discuss difficulties that they may have experienced through their interaction with students.
MEET THE SESSION PRESENTER
Presenter Name: Paidamwoyo Mangondo Current Study Direction: Currently pursuing his PhD in Qualifications: Masters Degree in Chemistry Short Profile: Paidamwoyo Mangondo has completed his MSc in Chemistry and has a BSc in Computer Science and a BSc Hons in Chemistry from UP. He has 9 years of experience in public speaking and debate. In 2012, he competed in the South African Chemical Institute Young Scientists Young Scientists Symposium as an honours student and ranked second in the MSc category, which he won the following year. He was a reserve speaker for the Enactus National Team in 2010, that represented South Africa in Anaheim, USA. He has been the chief adjudicator for numerous debating tournaments including the South African National Universities Debating Championships in 2013, and twice for the South African National Schools Debating Championships in 2012 and 2013. In 2011 he was a Deputy Chief Adjudicator for the Pan-African University Debating Championships, the continental championships. He has spoken in many tournaments and has been a finalist of the Jozi Rumble, the best speaker at The Gauteng Open and a semi-finalist at the SA University Nationals. In 2014 he coached three development teams for the Bratislava Schools Debating Championships in Slovakia, coached the national champions of the South African National Schools Debating Championships and judged until the quarter-final of the World Schools Debating Championships in Thailand in 2014. In 2015, Paida is the Operations Officer for the Gauteng Schools Debating Board, the Vice-President of the South African Schools Debating board, was a Deputy Chief Adjudicator and judged the Grand-final of the Worlds Schools Debating Championship held in Singapore (the first black African to have done so in the 25 year history of the tournament), coaches debating at St. John’s College in Houghton, St David’s Marist Inanda and Pretoria Boys High School, coaches the national academy team (the national team for underprivileged children), and is a provincial debating coach for Gauteng. |
