TUTOR DEVELOPMENTS SESSION

Turning Point Tutors is proud to announce that we will be hosting a tutor personal development session that is aimed at assisting tutors to improve and enhance their presentation skills.

SESSION PLAN

Workshop Presenter:
Paidamwoyo Mangondo 

Background information:

Paidamwoyo Mangondo has completed his MSc in Chemistry and has a BSc in Computer Science and a BSc Hons in Chemistry from UP. He has 9 years of experience in public speaking and debate. In 2012, he competed in the South African Chemical Institute Young Scientists Young Scientists 
Symposium as an honours student and ranked second in the MSc category, which he won the following year. He was a reserve speaker for the Enactus National Team in 2010, that represented South Africa in Anaheim, USA. He has been the chief adjudicator for numerous debating  tournaments including the South African National Universities Debating Championships in 2013, and twice for the South African National Schools Debating Championships in 2012 and 2013. In 2011 he was a Deputy Chief Adjudicator for the Pan-African University Debating Championships, the continental championships. He has spoken in many tournaments and has been a finalist of the Jozi Rumble, the best speaker at The Gauteng Open and a semi-finalist at the SA University Nationals. In 2014 he coached three development teams for the Bratislava Schools Debating Championships in Slovakia, coached the national champions of the South African National Schools Debating Championships and judged until the quarter-final of the World Schools Debating Championships in Thailand in 2014. In 2015, Paida is the Operations Officer for the Gauteng Schools Debating Board, the Vice-President of the South African Schools Debating board, was a Deputy Chief Adjudicator and judged the Grand-final of the Worlds Schools Debating Championship held in Singapore (the first black African to have done so in the 25 year history of the tournament), coaches debating at St. John’s College in Houghton, St David’s Marist Inanda and Pretoria Boys High School, coaches the national academy team (the national team for underprivileged children), and is a provincial debating coach for Gauteng.

Topics to be discussed in the session:
The topic of her workshop will focus on development of presentation skills.  In particular the following  things that will be considered. 
  1. How to effectively be persuasive using the elements of persuasiveness:
  2. Matter – the substance of the presentation void of how it is said
  3. Manner – how and the style of presentation, and tailoring your style to your 
  4. Strategy – identifying what is important for the presentation and what should be 
  5. Style – looking at both visual and verbal components of manner in a presentation 
  6. Audio-visual components of a presentation, how to make effective use of presentation slides and sound. personality prioritized. 

All tutors, regardless of their public speaking background or if they currently present courses, are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop.
